For summer holiday, I went to Los Angeles. Because of my first foreign travel in a while, I was nerves. Besides, security seemed not to be very good in downtown. The subway stations were darkish. The streets smelled bad here and there.
Looking at photos, the town is attractive. It was true but for the first few days of my stay I felt a bit down and was discouraged to explore the town. I tried not to take subway and was at pains to walk or to take a local bus as I was just a stranger. I gradually understood a very small area only around the hotel I stayed, but before I became familiar with the local transportation, I had to leave for home because of my short vacation.
Many people drive their own cars and neither subway or bus heading for a fancy area and a tourist spot were crowded.
