The exhibition “Pastoral Redemption, Glimpses of Perfection, André Bauchant + Foujita Ryuji” is being held at the Tokyo Station Gallery.

André Bauchant and Ryuji Fujita lived in the different time and place. They each went through their own difficult days. Their painting techniques were different; however, people who see their works would somewhat find a commonality in them. Their colorful lovely paintings make people feel warm.

I especially like flowers they drew.

My impression is that…

Out of the canvas of André Bauchant’s, something like joyful energy is vividly flying or jumping, whereas inside of Ryuji Fujita’s paintings, calm warm light is being lit.

Fujita’s painting, “Old-world blooms” is really fantastic.

Tokyo Station Building

The gallery is situated in the Tokyo Station building.

On the way to the gallery inside the building, several models of Tokyo Station building are displayed so that visitors can compare the differences in the shape of the buildings across time.

Among them there is the model of a typical Japanese style building designed by German architect, Franz Baltzer. His design was not actually adopted but in the early 20th century when Japanese people longed for modern culture of Western countries, he must have made a cool evaluation of traditional Japanese architects.

The actual building was designed by Japanese architect, Kingo Tatsuno. Still now the Renaissance-style building is modern and attracts people.

Tokyo Station building should be preserved along with typical Japanese traditional architects.
