There is an interesting article in The Japan Times.

An Edinburgh butcher put up a sign saying “Every day, thousands of innocent plants are killed by vegetarians. Help end the violence. Eat meat.”

Although I feel it is somewhat humorous and funny, I learned that a discussion was heated up last month by some vegans who blamed the butcher.

As a matter of fact, there seems to be no solid evidence that plants do not feel pain.

According to the idea of Food chain, plants are eaten by animals and small animals are eaten by large animals.

People eat both vegetables and meat. You, however, may eat vegetables or meat or both based on your own thoughts or preferences.

Since no one wants to have pain, you must feel sad if you cause pain to some other person. The question is whether the suffering one has the sensation of pain or not.

It may be a bit different topic but…

I grew bitter gourds last summer. It is known that they need plenty of water but grow well even in poor soil. So, they thrived in my small planters and gave me a lot of bitter gourds in the end. When a bitter gourd vine climbed to the length of 40 to 50 cm, the fresh top were cut so that the vine was divided and extended widely. It is an important care to grow bitter gourds but I felt very sorry for the plant. By removing the fresh top, two or more new ones are coming out and accordingly many more gourds are harvested.

It is also important to pick gourds before they become overripe not to sap other parts of the plant.

There are a lot of mysteries in plants and animals.

Innocent Meat

Sagamiya is selling INNOCENT MEAT, which is made of soybeans.

Following the instruction, I fried it with some vegetable oil.

This was amazingly delicious!!! I liked to add some yuzu koshou (seasoning with chili, yuzu peel and salt).

Business efforts are as wonderful as every plant living on the earth.

I am really grateful for them.
